NSW: Prisoner charged over fellow inmate's death
SYDNEY, April 5 AAP - A Silverwater remand centre prisoner has been charged in relationto the death of a fellow inmate, a corrective services spokesman said today.
The spokesman said Scott Simpson, 34, appeared in Parramatta Local Court on Tuesdayover the death of a fellow inmate at the Metropolitan Remand and Reception Centre at theSilverwater complex on Saturday about 6pm (AEDT).
Simpson was charged with assault, failing to comply with bail conditions and malicious damage.
A government source said the victim, who was on remand for sexual assault offencesagainst children, had been bashed to death.
Police have not yet released the name of the deceased because relatives have not been contacted.
Simpson will appear in Burwood Local Court on Tuesday.
